Overnight Oats Strawberry Jam (Print version)

Creamy oats combined with natural strawberry chia jam, perfect for a wholesome morning start.

# Required ingredients:

→ Overnight Oats Base

01 - 1 cup rolled oats, gluten-free certified if required
02 - 1 cup milk of choice, dairy or plant-based
03 - 1/2 cup plain yogurt, Greek or dairy-free alternative
04 - 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
05 - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Strawberry Chia Jam

07 - 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and chopped
08 - 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
09 - 1 tablespoon chia seeds
10 - 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional

→ Toppings

11 - 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
12 - 1/4 cup chopped nuts or seeds, optional

# How to make it:

01 - Combine chopped strawberries and maple syrup in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until strawberries soften and release their juices, approximately 5-7 minutes. Mash with a fork or potato masher to achieve desired consistency. Remove from heat, stir in chia seeds and lemon juice if using, then allow mixture to cool completely. The jam will thicken further as it cools.
02 - In a mixing bowl or jar, combine rolled oats, milk, yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Divide oat mixture evenly between two jars or bowls. Top each portion with 2-3 tablespoons of cooled strawberry chia jam. Cover securely and refrigerate overnight or minimum 4 hours.
03 - Remove jars from refrigerator. Gently stir if desired to incorporate layers. Top each serving with fresh sliced strawberries and optional nuts or seeds immediately before consuming.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • No cooking required in the morning, just grab and go while you're still groggy and figuring out socks.
  • The homemade chia jam tastes infinitely fresher than anything store-bought, and it's foolproof to make.
  • It's naturally filling enough to carry you through until lunch without the mid-morning energy crash.
02 -
  • Don't skip cooling the jam before adding it to your oats, or the heat will start cooking the yogurt and create an odd, separated texture.
  • Chia seeds thicken significantly as they sit, so if your jam seems too loose at first, trust the process and wait an hour before second-guessing yourself.
03 -
  • Cook your jam until the berries are just beginning to fall apart—any longer and you lose the fresh fruit flavor; any shorter and it won't thicken properly overnight.
  • Use glass jars if you have them because you can see exactly how beautifully layered everything is, and somehow eating from glass makes it taste better.
